He dropped out from the University of Southern California to work at online bulletin board company, Pinterest. He was one of the first employees of Pinterest.

He grew up in Singapore. He was born in New York to parents that immigrated from India, but when he was four they moved abroad. He grew up abroad but went back to the U.S. for college, when he was 18 (In 2010).
Sahil started learning Graphic designing since he was 13. And stuck to graphic designing and Freelancing until the iPhone app store was released. The release of iPhone app store clicked for him. And he started doing some design work for the iPhone and also had his own app ideas.
He was there in the University of Southern California for a Semester and then he dropped out of the University. He started posting his work on Hacker News. In 2010, Ben Silbermann (the CEO at Pinterest) emailed him and told him about Pinterest, this app allows people to share, organize, catalog, the things that they love, that they’re really into. But they didn't had an iPhone app and one pretty badly. They saw some of his work online and were impressed by his work and wanted him to work for Pinterest. So in 2010 he joined Pinterest as the second employee. Everything was going well, but Sahil decided to do something new, something of his own. So in 2011 he left Pinterest and started Gumroad at the same time.
He started Gumroad in 2011. In 2015, Gumroad reached a peak of 23 full-time employees. In 2016, after failing to raise more money, he ended up back where he began: a one-person company. The company became a one-man operation. Gumroad was earning a modest profit, and Sahil was able to live off the business. But he felt like a failure. In Silicon Valley, a business that merely pays the founder's bills is derided as a "lifestyle business."
But soon, with his determination and hard work for his company, he in now running a profitable, growing, low-maintenance software business serving.
